HackedInfrastructure · born 2017 · ✝ 2023
A self-custody wallet whose users woke up empty.
Atomic Wallet was a non-custodial multi-chain wallet that suffered a mass compromise in June 2023, draining assets across Ethereum, Tron, BSC, Bitcoin, Polkadot, and Avalanche. Researchers linked the theft to the North Korean Lazarus Group.

☠️ Cause of death
User private keys were compromised through an undisclosed method, allowing simultaneous draining of wallets across six chains.
📓 Lessons left behind
- —Non-custodial does not mean the software is trustworthy.
- —Seed generation and update channels are prime supply-chain targets.
- —Audit wallet builds and key handling, not just smart contracts.
🌱 The idea that survived
Hardware-backed key isolation
Pushed users toward hardware wallets and secure enclaves that never expose seeds to app software.
